Samsung QN90D Review: Bright, Punchy, Ready for Gaming

Rating: 5.0 / 5 Price: $899 Tested for 10 days

The QN90D is a brightness monster. HDR highlights pop, and the TV keeps contrast in check with tight local dimming. Blacks aren’t OLED-deep, but blooming is minimal unless you’re off-axis in a dark room.

Gaming is excellent: four HDMI 2.1 ports, 4K/120, VRR, and low input lag. Samsung’s Game Bar remains handy. Upscaling on cable and sports is clean; motion handling is solid with judder reduction dialed to 2/2 in our tests.

Tizen is busy but fast; we disabled most ads. Audio is fine for TV, but a soundbar unlocks Atmos and better dialog. If you want OLED blacks, look at S90D; for bright rooms and gaming, this QLED is a winner.

Pros

  • Huge brightness, great HDR punch
  • Strong local dimming control
  • HDMI 2.1 on all ports, VRR/4K120
  • Excellent for bright rooms

Cons

  • Not OLED-level blacks
  • Smart TV ads to disable
  • Best with a soundbar

Should you buy it?

If you watch in bright rooms or want a gaming-friendly TV with serious HDR punch, yes. If you prioritize absolute blacks and watch mostly in the dark, look at OLED. For most mixed-use households, the QN90D hits the sweet spot.
